Heartfelt Request. coloring

Post  TanukiTakumi on Sat Mar 19, 2011 1:24 am

So... I request a coloring tutorial. Like with layers. I can color sorta, But I really don't have a solid method. I play it by ear almost everytime and tend to fail a bit. I'm learning so I'm very willing to try new things. I mostly don't color but if I'm gonna get anywhere i need to get coloring down anyway.

By the wayside. I use paint tool SAI.

If you could help I would appreciate it muchly ^^

Mr. (or miss, mz...etc) Tanuki,
I think it is hard to base any sort of tutorial without you posting some of your work to show us where you are at...or what you DO know (helps know how basic or complex the tutorial should be) Plus you will also have a hard time relating because few people use SAI. It is a successful painting tool...and as that is true I am sure it has general similarities between what other people, or even I use...but just keep that in mind.

Just a general tutorial regarding coloring with layers utilizing a line drawing...there are at least 2 basic ways to do this:

1. Start out with a linedrawing...done digitally or scanned in.
2. Set that layer on the blending mode "multiply."
3. Make a new layer, move it UNDER the linedrawing layer and begin to color on your new layer.

1.Start out with a linedrawing.
2.Make a new layer, make sure it is above the line layer.
3.Set your new layer to multiply and begin to color on your new layer.

there are more and more and even MORE complex ways to approach this subject and develop past the point I have described above...
