Tanuki Takumi

Post  TanukiTakumi on Sat Feb 05, 2011 6:11 am

Of course Tanuki Takumi isn't my real name. More of a pen name I suppose. My actual name is Joseph. Im Amelia's husband's brother. I like to call myself an artist but I think Im an epic failure compared to others on this site (Amelia mainly). Uhm. What other crap am I supposed to write? Im think Im probably the youngest on this "fantastical site" at 17. I hope to one day become a Mangaka... hopefully >.>

hobbies? Drawing, messing with sharp pointy things, sleeping?........

My DA is http://tanuki-takumi.deviantart.com/ but it is currently lacking... in many things. Its not sparkly like some peoples cuz I simply dun care about that.

*bows* thank you for reading about a noobie artist such as myself.

I hardly think I need to mention that eating jello is one of greatest joys a human can experience. So, naturally, when its time for the Angels to get their jello, they would announce it with joyful bells of celebration! When I myself eat jello I blast Tchaikovsky, 1812 Overture (Finale) loudly.

Skip to about 1:43 to see where the optimum jello eating music starts.

Jello aside, Welcome ^.^
I didn't expect to see you on my forums, but I am pleased you dropped in, I hope that you will enjoy it here, even though everyone is older then you! Maybe we will be able to impart some of our wisdom to you? I dunno. I think the first bit of knowledge I would impart would be not to give yourself names. Calling yourself 'failure' and 'noobie' is no way to boost your moral and self image. You can achieve the same, or greater level of art then I what I can do, but you have to work hard and apply for it.

I went stalking on your DA, (I was sad that there were only 4 pictures... Please add more! I wish to see more of your drawing!) and I saw that you have good potential to get better and better. Your drawings look like mine did way back in the good ol' days, haha! I like the picture "Contemplation" but I think I took it out of context. The picture made me imagine that the phone was about to bite you, which is why you were giving it a 'I don't trust you' look.

Have you ever had any art lessons/classes? I don't know much about home schooling.
I am curious, how often you get a chance to draw, and how much time you spend drawing?

I think there might be some tutorials around the forums that might help you with drawing, but if I imagined that they existed not feel free to ask questions, and request tutorials on how to do anything and everything.

To sum up this post, Welcome, enjoy, ask, learn. ^.^
Amelia

P.S. Tanuki are some of the coolest Japanese mythical creatures! Good choice for a name.

Ah...yes thank you thank you...
On the contrary. Calling myself names may inflict damage but it motivates me... like a "I will beat you!" thing. Its an incredibly dull motivation but it works for me.

DA stalker >> ... Ah. you think so? thank you. I will try to add more. I just got my Wacom (bamboo pen... all i could afford T~T) though so i haven't drawn many things im pleased with.

I have not had art lessons. Im completely self taught. I tend to bite teachers. I guess thats why im homeschooled. WAS homeschooled I should say. Im now taking classes for General educational development classes. Thats fancy for GED >3< ...
I just started getting into the swing of things again with my art. Ill countless hours randomly sketching crap. Now usually on my Bamboo (paper is running low on my pad...saaad)

Yaaay tutorials... in case there was any doubt...that was sarcasm. Actually im kidding. I enjoy learning new things for art. I can ask for a tutorial? Wow. Such power.

thank you again... by the wayside. Nice jello music. Thats like to get you pumped up for some serious jello eating. But im a pudding fan myself. Go tapioca...

Tanuki are awesome.... The name was inspired by some people saying i was the personification of a Tanuki...and they expected me to change into the animal and run away after causing mischief... yep...thats me...

oooh~ Wacoms are super exciting! Galen bought me a huge one a couple years ago. I have used it so much there are little marks all over the drawing surface! I use it for digital tones, and coloring drawings, but I don't color things very much. I tried playing an FPS with it once, but that didn't work out so well...

What kinds of things do you do with the Bamboo? Just drawing, or do you try full color things? What img program do you use?

Not bad for being completely self taught, but you need to take some classes. Teachers have a way of developing and helping people better their skills then a person can on their own. They are just trying to help you! You shouldn't BITE them!!
WAS home schooled? Where is the location of the secret base where you undergo mysterious training for the mythical GED?

It's a good thing you draw for 'countless hours' because if you really want to be a Manga-Ka you will have to draw 8+ hours every day. I don't draw that much yet... I am working up to it though. Its hard to be that self motivated though >.<'

I don't like your sarcastic attitude about our tutorial system. Its EPIC. Love it. Love it, or I will forcefully change your avatar picture to this:

Because I can.

Its actually more fun to play with jello then to eat it ^.^
Tapioca is delicious as well! There is a random restaurant that we went to that serves Bubble Tea! It is a delicious tea, with Tapioca balls on the bottom. You suck them up through a huge straw and eats them. Best drink ever ^w^

Reguarding Tanuki, have you seen Pom Poko? Its a Ghibli movie about Tanuki! Link to movie's Wiki page.

Yes yes, I remember. I watched you draw for a while with it ^^ . Then Galen stole it from you and was messing around. And then you stole it back. ^^; . I have those little scratchlings on mine too. Its not as shiny now as when i first got it but it has a little light on it that gets distracting! It gets brighter when you touch the pen to the surface and its kinda fun sometimes. "Ima firin mah lazor!"..... that's what I think when I see it. Yeah FPS games don't go well with wacoms ^^.
I'm still experimenting with mine but I barely use paper and pencil now. I've done several things as experiments (mwahaha) and they've turned out pretty good (I'm using that thing called Self-esteem and it helps). I usually just do drawings but I'm slowly adding bits of color to stuff and trying to find techniques. Hey hey... maybe I'll request a tutorial on that. Coloring in layers and stuff.
I use SAI. Its the one I have the least trouble with.

Yes I do, but unfortunately i do not know how I will manage that anytime soon T~T. I have this Airforce plan Im pretty set on. After I get my GED and have stuff in order Im gonna do all the testing for the Airforce then go to Texas for basic training. Sometime after that I'll come back and live on some base and then ill be able to go to a college for it. So that puts a damper on planning since I wont know where I'll be at, but I WILL go to college and take classes for it or something. What can I say? I like to bite. That and my art teacher in Elementary school had her own views of art and I had mine XD. She would always get mad when I didn't make the clay into the shape she had assigned or use the method she wanted. I tried! I did! But my way was easier ~3~ . I could handle a teacher better now though. As long as they aren't making me create THEIR art (like my elementary teacher) and teach me to use my skills to better MY art instead. Ya know?
The location of my secret base? Its at Lees Summit West high school... or more precise the tiny building next to it. And why do you say "mythical GED"? I promise you the GED is not fictitious.

I know I know. Thats where the actual "work" part comes in. And why do YOU have to work eight hours a day on manga? You have deadlines? Are you secretly holding out on us that someone may be interested in your art? AKA a editor for some massive publishing company? I'm sure you have the potential. Do you plan on submitting something to a publishing company?

You actually took time to make that? wow.... I feel like I should not love your tutorials so it doesn't go to waste. Its actually not that bad,but I do like my current one better. SLENDERMAN!
But no I'm not ripping on your whole Tutorial Empire going on and I'll even probably request a few (coloring in layers! Though it would be different on SAI than... you use Photoshop yes?).

Bubble Tea? Thats sounds awesome! I'm addicted to tea and tea related things myself ^^. My new favorite is Earl Grey. I decided to try it because its Captain Jean Luc Picards favorite on Star Trek: TNG, which I watch as much as possible.

No I haven't seen that. I've only seen a few Ghibli films because I'm deprived.

(Looking back over I realize how long this thing is. Oh well. I was listening to Pendulum during writing and lost track of time....and space...)
